JI Keun Wook (1985-) has been focusing on the inherent "movement" that emerges as a final destination through a series of static actions, executed under limited autonomy by relying on the tool of a ruler.
The lines in his works originate from a single modular ruler and gradually form a complete whole. A line alone does not acquire meaning as an individual entity; it becomes an undulating illusion and a tangible movement only when the predetermined final line is drawn. Therefore, Ji’s work can be seen as the result of his intention for the perception of the present, the past that has passed, and the future to come to be experienced as a singular dynamic virtuality.
JI Keun Wook graduated from the Department of Printmaking at Hongik University and earned a Master’s degree in Art & Science from Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London. He also obtained a Ph.D. in Painting from Hongik University. His major solo exhibitions include 《Eye on the Arc》(2025, Schema Art Museum, Cheongju, Korea), 《Glass》(2024, WWNN, Seoul, Korea), 《Hardboiled Breeze》(2023, Hakgojae Gallery, Seoul, Korea), 《Interval of Afterimage》(2021, A-Lounge, Seoul, Korea). His major group exhibitions include 《ptych ptych ptych》(2026, CDA, Seoul, Korea), 《from the earth》(2025, Hakgojae Gallery, Seoul, Korea), 《Flyby》(2024, Prompt Project, Seoul, Korea), 《Another material property》(2023, Hongik University Museum of Contemporary Art, Seoul, Korea), 《Skins》(2022, Hakgojae Gallery, Seoul, Korea), 《Icon》(2021, Hakgojae Gallery, Seoul, Korea). It has been selected for the Seongkok Art Museum Open Call and the Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture's Creative Support Program.
