Oum Jeongsoon

Oum Jeongsoon(b. 1962-) is known worldwide for her work on ‘Elephant Without Trunk.’ She has been working with visually impaired students on a project that traces the journey of an elephant from Indonesia and Japan to Korea. The large-scale installation, which reinterprets the sculptures that represent the elephants’ senses of hearing, touch, and smell, invites visually impaired students to think about how they perceive the world across nationalities, genders, and eras. Oum Jeongsoon graduated from Ewha Woman University, Department of Painting, and then from the Graduate School of Painting at the University of Munich, Germany. She was a professor of painting at Konkuk University College of Art and Design. In 1996, she founded the organization ‘Our Eyes’ and has been leading various projects related to publications, exhibitions, art projects, and art education, including art education for blind schools. She has exhibited her works at the Seoul Museum of Art, Art Sonjae Center, Soma Museum of Art, Daejeon Museum of Art, and participated in the 14th Gwangju Biennale(2023). Her works are in the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art(Gwacheon), Seoul Museum of Art(Seoul), National Fork Museum of Korea(Seoul), Hoam Art Museum(Yongin), and Samsung Cultural Foundation(Seoul).
