Media artist Yangachi holds his B.F.A in Sculpture from Suwon University and his M.F.A in Media Art from Yonsei University. His stage name Yangachi refers to his ID he has used since 1999 when personal PC started to be distributed. Yangachi extends his reality and experiences, and reflects it into contemporary Korean society to freely present unique works.
The artist works in 3-5 year long projects. He accumulates episodes, collects information and transforms them into ‘signs’ to edit them by sequence. He continuously compiles additional signs and composes narrations in the relation of reciprocal references. Yangachi is sensitive to the phenomenology of signs and he tries to make the whole exhibition as a place for interpretation. His major series include Middle Korea and Night of Burning Bones and Flesh.
He had his solo exhibitions at Hakgojae Gallery, Art Center Nabi, KT&G Sangsangmadang Gallery and Insa Art Space and participated in numerous shows internationally including France, Hong Kong, Japan, the United States and Chile. His works are in the collections of National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Seoul Museum of Art, Gyeonggi Museum of Modern Art, Daejeon Museum of Art, Amore Pacific Museum of Art.
