Hakgojae Gallery is pleased to present Danse with Hands from November 27 to December 28, 2024. This exhibition marks the first comprehensive presentation of the artist’s work in Korea, offering an in-depth look at the series that defines his abstract painting practice. Yalçındağ is known for merging traditional oil painting techniques with woodcut and silk-screen methods to create his distinctive abstract style. Since 1996, he has focused on the abstracted form of leaves, using them as a minimal pictorial unit in his ongoing artistic exploration. These motifs, which evoke the imagery of cells and bodily tissues, extend across the canvas in an endless, expansive manner. His all-over compositions, characterized by repetitive patterns and vibrant colors, evoke the infinite elements that constitute the world.
Yalçındağ is fundamentally inspired by nature. Here, nature refers not simply to that which is opposed to the artificial or the human-made, but to a state of being that exists on its own, independent and self-sustaining. This concept also encompasses light and color. Over the course of several decades, the artist has explored the properties of color, proposing a new way of perceiving it. His fundamental approach goes beyond the decorative function of color. Rather than seeing decoration as a mere supplementary element, he views it as an independent form in its own right. Through this, a system emerges in which color is perceived not as something added to objects or surfaces, but as existing solely in and of itself. By subtly manipulating color changes, the artist creates gradient effects, thus opening up an infinite space.
