Fiona Rae

 

Fiona Rae was born in Hong Kong, 1963. The artist graduated from Goldsmiths College in 1987, and a year later, participated in the landmark exhibition, Freeze in London, which first introduced the world to the revolutionary Young British Artists. She was nominated for the Turner Prize in 1991, and was appointed as the first woman Professor of Painting at the Royal Academy Schools in 2011. Rae’s work has been listed as one of the most important artworks globally in Stephen Farthing’s 1001 Paintings You Must See Before You Die (2006, Orion Publishing Group). Her works have been exhibited in numerous institutions such as the Carré dArt - Musée dArt Contemporain (Nîmes, France), Essl Museum (Klosterneuburg, Austria), Kunstmuseum Stuttgart (Stuttgart, Germany), Kunsthalle Basel (Basel, Switzerland), The Saatchi Gallery (London), Leeds Art Gallery (Leeds, U.K.), Tate Britain (London), etc. Her works are also held in many public collections including the Musée National dArt Moderne, Centre Pompidou (Paris), Hamburger Bahnhof (Berlin), Tate Collection (U.K.), and the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, The Smithsonian Institution (Washington D.C.).
