Tubagus Andre Sukmana, the director of National Gallery of Indonesia, mentioned Mangu Putra’s works in her forward which is written for the exhibition to celebrate the 65th Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia Theater of the People: Mangu Putra Solo Exhibition as “The works encourage us not only to be introspective, but also to do something sincere.”
 
Born in Bali, Mangu Putra is one of the most representative Social Realism artist who tries to deliver visual messages to the audience through history, nature and people of Bali. He concentrates on social issues such as the environment, politics and economy of Indonesia and asks us how to place a position of an individual in these issues and what actions we need to take as a member of society..
 
Mangu Putra graduated with a degree in Visual Communication Design from ISI (Indonesian Institute of the Arts) in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. At the institute, he was awarded the Best of Work Visual Communication Design in 1988 and in 1990; his artistic abilities are recognized in the art world. He was also awarded Asean Art Awards by Philip Morris Group of Companies in 1994 and the 2nd Place at Indofood Art Award in 2002. In 2010, the largest Mangu Putra retrospective exhibition was held at National Gallery of Indonesia. He has been featured in major international art exhibitions including: Jeju Museum of Contemporary Art (Korea), Agung Rai Museum of Art (Bali, Indonesia), Ho Chi Minh City Fine Art Museum (Vietnam), Seoul Museum Of Art (Korea), Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), Shanghai (China), and Haus der Weltkulturen, Berlin (Germany).
