Tim Eitel has been acclaimed by the international art world as a representative New Leipzig School painter alongside with Neo Rauch, Anna Tessenow, and Christoph Ruckhaberle. He studied German literature, and philosophy at the University of Stuttgart from 1993 to 1994. His philosophy background had impact in his work. Eitel studied painting at the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst in Leipzig from 1997- 2001, and was a Meisterschüler in the class of Professor Arno Rink from 2001 to 2003.

Tim Eitel is a specialist for paintings in which individual figures, colored planes, and architectural structures fuse into units of mysterious, yet streamlined elegance. In most cases, the figures do not show their faces. Through this, the artist creates an ubiquitous atmosphere, where figures can be either ‘myself’ or ‘another,’ and his painting contains the somberness and emptiness of all humans in modern society.

Art Review magazine declared Eitel as “the best young painter working today.” Eitel has received a number of prestigious awards throughout his career, including the Marion Ermer-Preis in 2003, and the Landesgraduiertenstipendium, Saxonia, Germany in 2002. He was granted an artist’s residency in the International studio program at Künstlerhaus Bethanien in Berlin 2002. Since 2000, Eitel has participated in more than fifty exhibitions worldwide, including Hamburger Bahnhof Museum fur Gegenwart, Germany, Saint Louis Art Museum, USA, and Pace Gallery, USA. Eitel's works are part of collections of ARKEN Museum of Modern Art, Denmark, Museum für Gegenwartskunst, Austria, Deutsche Bank Collection, Germany and other major art institutions.
