Born in Changnyeong, Gyeongsang-do, Korea (1930-1989). Entered the Department of Art in Hongik University the first year it was established (1949), and transferred to Seoul National University, College of Fine Arts as a sophomore and graduated (1953). Held solo exhibitions at Busan Cheong-Nyun Salon (1961), Press Center (1969), etc. Was the founding member of Cheongmaek (1956), Contemporary Artists Association (1957), and Actuel (1962). Imprisoned for six months for violating the National Security Law in 1960. Participated in the 10th São Paulo Bienniale (1969), Contemporary Art Exhibition (1970), etc. Won the National Award at the International Festival of Painting Cagnes-sur-Mer (1971). Took positions as a professor at the Department of Fine Arts in Hansung University, executive board member of Korean Fine Arts Association, and a judge at National Art Exhibition of Korea. Retrospective exhibitions were held in Ho-Am Gallery (1990), Gana Art Center (1999), Insa Art Center (2009), Gallery Woong (2021), etc.
