The exhibition 'Vitality' is to be held in Hakgojae celebrate World Cup 2002 in Seoul. The World Cup is not only a magnificent festival for the Korean People, but also for all the soccer fans of the world. In this exhibition five leading Korean artists show the artistic vitality and spirits recreated in the modern style of traditional Korean paintings. People all around the world love the World Cup because it has contributed to the harmony of the people of the world. Players, supporters and audience have shown the real spirit of sport : fairness and love of the game beyond winning and losing. In other words, the World Cup is a symbol of world peace and harmony. Art symbolizes the same ideals. In the sense that the World Cup concentrates and symbolizes the hope of all people in the world, it also has high artistic value. Art and World Cup both symbolizes our wishes and the beauty we dream of. Traditionally, art and sport festivals have similar goals. For example, in the past in Greece, when the Olympic games were held, an art festival was also held. Korean traditional art and modern sports meet at the point of the 'vitality' and beauty of the spirit and it is for this reason that we show the work of five traditional Korean artists' in th 'vitality' exhibition in Hakgojae. The artists are Kang Kyung Koo, Kim Bo Hie, Kim Sun Doo, Kim Ho Deuk, Suk Chul Joo. Vitality in traditional Korean art and literature means that a poem or painting is full of simple but dignified spirit and beauty. Whether it is sport or art, in order to be a great endeavor there should balance of soul and body, an expression of the beauty of this balance in the effort expended, and evidence of real appreciation and happiness found in the audience. Vitality is the most important goal to achieve. We look forward to the vitality and happiness of the World Cup and are sure the exhibition 'Vitality' can achieve the same level in art. In addition, we hope for the success of the World Cup in Korea and hope that it contributes to the world peace and harmony.
