Figures in KIM Eun Jeong’s artworks get
influenced by the weather, but they also create the weather. Inside the
scattered smoke and the driving snow, they sense the awakening of a fresh new
spirit and make a change. Just as the outside weather changes every day, so
does the weather on the inside. Sensing the detailed movement must be related
to a chance meeting and a trivial accident that breaks routine. Like the
flapping wing of a butterfly, the change starts with minor perturbations.
Eventually, it covers the whole interior and affects the rhythm of the entire
external environment. That is how each person participates in the weather. The
same goes for animals. In other words, there are two types of weather-
objective weather that we share on the earth and subjective weather that is
ever-changing in response to it. By intercrossing, they create various
atmospheres. And within those cycles of atmosphere, we breathe and live every
day.
Then KIM Eun Jeong’s exhibition, WEATHERLAND, archives daily life while checking the weather from this kind of
perspective. The fresh air surrounding her body, high clouds, branches swaying
in the breeze, and neighbors and cats encountered on a walk feature the
four-season journey. Like a poem, a free association that connects scene to
scene opens up a subtle world of beauty. As I capture each artwork through my
eyes with a slightly pliable heart, I expect the joy of the new season.,
