Hakgojae Gallery is delighted to announce its first exhibition in 2014: Cho Hwan’s solo exhibition at gallery space 1. Cho repeats the process of cutting and pasting iron plate and builds the image. His steel plates are time consuming and heavy yet subtle and inexorable. Cho’s works are the result of brushstrokes of calligraphy, as well as the assemblage of simplified lines. Cho attempts to reach the essence of art through his iron plates.
The works displayed at the exhibition are not framed but exhibited as plate itself in the gallery space. The white walls with the works present the impression of looking at void space of traditional oriental paintings. The audiences will experience the intimate space that specific shapes of images create.
