Bernard FRIZE

Bernard Frize is a French abstract painter who lives and works in France and Germany. He was born in Saint-Mandé, France in 1949 and studied at the École des beaux-Arts in Montpellier National Art School. After opening the first solo exhibition at the Roussillon en Durango gallery (Paris) in 1979, he had more than 70 solo exhibitions and group exhibitions over 150 times.

Frize is focused on the production process by working with a variety of materials and utilizing a multitude of techniques. As an artist he explores the bare minimal essence of painting. He follows systematic procedure in executing his paintings, based on a predetermined script, to appear as a brush moving trajectory, so he can establish an invisible order on the surface of the attractive colors. His paintings feature a spectrum of color, selected not to make a statement in but selected simply to be a color because they are separate from one another. He thinks that viewer should know undergoing procedure through the painting, and a magnificent art is simply seen.

Frize’s artworks have been exhibited in S.M.A.K Museum, Belgium and Gemeente Museum Den Haag, Netherlands in 2002. In 2003, He opened solo exhibitions in Musée d’Art Moderne in Paris and was focused on the spot for the international art scene. In addition, he participated in the Sydney Biennale 1998 and the Venice Biennale 2005. In particular, Bernard Frize is the only French of 90 artists at the Venice Biennale as a representative.
