YUN Suknam: I'm not a pine tree

YUN Suknam

Hakgojae Gallery is pleased to announce the representative artist of the Korean Feminist Art, Yun Suknam’s solo exhibition, I’m Not a Pine Tree, starting from October 16th to November 24th, 2013. Through her works that show maternal strength and confused internals of women today, Yun reinstates the identity of all oppressed women, as well as express the beauty of women who strive for their self-esteem. From this exhibition, the artist intends to show her resistance towards the human-centered phenomenon, labeling and classifying social means and value just for the convenience of mankind.

The exhibition will also include the patterned, cut-out hanji (Korean traditional paper) works and installation of and , which is re-made especially for the exhibition space of Hakgojae Gallery. In addition, 40 ‘Neowa’ works—painted portraits that are drawn onto Neowa (Korean shingle-roof)—will be displayed. The disposed Neowa is given a new life through the work of the artist, and has reborn into a new being.
