LEE Seahyun - Plastic Garden

LEE Seahyun

Hakgojae Gallery is pleased to announce a solo exhibition of Lee Seahyun ‘Plastic Garden’ from 29th August to 14th October, 2012. This show includes not only his representative Between Red series, which is also known as ‘Red Landscape’ but also experimental paintings and his first sculpture works. Lee’s works may look like depicting beautiful utopia but it actually talks about dystopia that is destroyed by humans. At first glance, they are simple landscapes but when looked closer, the viewers would find falling buildings, traces of cannonballs that reminisce the heartbreaking history of Korea. If Lee’s earlier works described wounds of history and vanishing past with multi-perspectives in landscape, artist’s new works resemble artificial bonsai that are composed of particles that reflect upon the contemporary reality and its hardship. Through landscapes that are reconstructed by Lee’s new paintings and sculptures, viewers may have an opportunity to ponder about the sad reality of Korea, whose land is destroyed by radical economic development and is also divided into North and South.
