YOON Hyanglan

Hakgojae Gallery is pleased to announce a solo exhibition of Yoon Hyanglan from 24th November to 31st December, 2010 at Space 2. She graduated from Hongik University and received MFA from École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris. Through unconstrained expression of lines, she flexibly expresses her internal world and her reaction toward the world.

Yoon’s work can be broadly organized into napa cabbage drawing series, collage and energy of life drawing series and new works . The subject she chose, ‘napa cabbage’ symbolizes her homeland and longing for her mother. She puts paper on canvas and draws napa cabbage on it. She moistens and removes the paper to replace it on the new canvas. Such working process contains Korean sentiment.

This exhibition also shows series, which present one aspect of her everyday life in France. The displayed documents are the only proof of her identity as an alien in France for 25 years. The lines filled in on papers are attributes to her sorrows and agony in the foreign country. From this exhibition, the viewers may experience Yoon’s rich world of art that she firmly established in France.
